Obituary

Jennie Van Der Zyl was the last child born to Geurt and Jenneke Bruxvoort Van Hal on July 6, 1912 near Sully, Iowa. She passed away at the Pella Regional Health Center on the evening of Friday, May 25, 2007 at the age of ninety-four years.

Jennie attended the Sully Christian Grade School where she completed the eighth grade.

On April 10, 1956 she was united in marriage with Simon Van Der Zyl in Pella, Iowa. Jennie was a homemaker all of her married life and enjoyed helping on the farm. She and Simon farmed in the Sandridge area for twenty-eight years before moving to Pella in 1984.

She was a member of the Third Reformed Church in Pella. She also was a dedicated volunteer for the Christian Opportunity Center and Fairhaven East, the senior living facility where she resided. She spent many hours crocheting and knitting lovely pieces for family and friends. She donated numerous afghans to charitable institutions.

Those left to cherish her memory are her many nieces and nephews.

Those preceding her in death are: her parents; husband, Simon on January 1, 1992; two brothers: Gerrit and Jacob Van Hal; six sisters: Elizabeth De Kock, Gertie Van Sant, Hattie Van Soelen, Alta Van Soelen, Jennie Van Hal who died in infancy, and Jacoba Spoelstra.

"Aunt Jennie", as she was affectionately known, was a special lady to her nieces and nephews and will be remembered for her sincere interest in each family member. We will also remember her bright mind and her keen sense of humor which she maintained until her last day.

Jennie will be missed by her family and many friends.
