Jennie Elscott Geurts was born March 8, 1917 to John and Maggie (Brand) Elscott. She was the first born of seven children in a country home two miles north of Taintor. She was raised in the Taintor area and graduated from the eigth grade at the Case School, which was located at the end of their farm.

On April 10, 1941 she was united in marriage with Harold Geurts. They had three daughters: LaVonne, Linda, and Cindy. Jennie and Harold farmed near Lynnville until Harold's death in September of 1998. She continued to live on the farm one more year and in October of 1999, she moved to the Sully Retirement Home. She then lived in the Hilltop Manor of Pella, before moving to St. Francis Manor in Grinnell nearly three years ago.

Jennie was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church in Sully. Some of her favorite hobbies were tending her garden, yard, and flowers(especially her geraniums), canning, baking pies, and spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law: Chadwick Ver Ploeg and Melvin Geurts; and sister-in-law Luella Vander Wilt.

Preceding Jennie in death were her parents; her husband, Harold; great-granddaughter Maggie Sue Hovda/Van Kooten; four sisters: Ellen (Francis) Van Zante, Grace (John) Renaud, Gladys (James) Renaud, and Irene Ver Ploeg; two brothers: Glen (Verna) Elscott and Elmer Elscott; brothers-in-law: Lester Geurts and Floyd Vander Wilt; and sister-in-law Iris Geurts.
