Jennie Stravers, daughter of Kors and Jennie Nikkel Harthoorn, was born April 10, 1920, near Lynnville, Iowa. She received her early education at Richland #7-Black Oak Country School where she completed the eighth grade.

On February 27, 1941, Jennie was united in marriage with Gilbert Stravers at the home of her parents in Lynnville. Jennie and Gilbert were blessed with four children: Russell, Velma, Marilyn and Sandra. The family made their home in the Sully/Galesburg area.

Jennie was an active member of the Sully Christian Reformed Church since 1940. She was a charter member of Ruth Circle and one of their projects was making quilts for the needy. She was also active in Coffee Break. She enjoyed being a homemaker and loved sewing, quilting, gardening, Bible Study, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. For ten years she served as a cook at Fair Haven in Pella, Iowa.

Jennie went to her heavenly home on Monday, November 8, 2010, at the Pella Regional Health Center at the age of ninety.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses: Russell and Gladys Stravers of Sully, Iowa, Velma and Larry Ouwenga of DeMotte, Indiana, and Sandy and Phil Braziel of Waukee, Iowa; son-in-law, Jeff Schuling of Altoona, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; twenty -five great-grandchildren; sisters: Cora Jansen and Ernestine Dieleman; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Nellie Harthoorn, Charles Conover, Joe and Pearl Stravers, Lucy Stravers, Dick and Ruth Stravers, Jan and Jim Monsma.

Jennie is preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert; daughter, Marilyn Schuling; her parents, Kors and Jennie Harthoorn; parents-in-law, John and Sarah Stravers; brothers: Cornelius Harthoorn and William Harthoorn; sisters: Francis Vander Zyl, Cornelia Maasdam and Dorothy Conover.
