IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jerry L.
Swank
October 7, 1948 – July 25, 2025
In Loving Memory of Jerry Lee Swank, the son of William and Wilma (Schippers) Swank, was born on October 7th, 1948, in Pella, Iowa. Jerry attended Pella Schools and spent his whole life in the Pella area. Jerry Swank was a devoted and loving husband, father, and proud Vietnam Veteran, who passed away peacefully on July 25th, 2025, at the age of 76.
Jerry answered the call to serve his country with courage and honor, in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Jerry completed his tour of duty with distinction and honor.
After returning home, Jerry married the love of his life Kathleen McKay, on December 9th, 1972, in Knoxville, IA. Jerry adored Kathy more than anything, sharing 29 years of marriage, until her passing on August 5th, 2000. Together they raised their 2 children, Chad and Holly, instilling in them the values of kindness, perseverance, and respect for the world around them.
Jerry found joy in the outdoors, whether fishing, on his four-wheeler, maintaining his vast property, and spending time with friends and family.
Jerry spent many years working for Pella Construction, and later Pella Excavating and Foundation. He then worked for Precision Pulley and Idler.
He is survived by his son Chad (Kelli) Swank of Otley, IA, and their children: Kaia VanderWerf (Great Granddaughter Ariel), Meav and Tia Swank; and his daughter Holly (Michael) La Barbera of San Diego, CA, and their children: Jace, Briana, and Brielle La Barbera, all of whom carry forward his legacy of strength, compassion, and integrity. He also leaves behind a circle of extended family and friends who will miss his steady presence, warm smile, and quiet wisdom.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Kathy in 2000, his parents, his parents-in-law, Robert and Patricia (Bass) McKay, his brother Robert Swank, his brothers-in-law: Mike McKay and Steve McKay, and his nephew Kenny McKay.
Jerry's life was a testament to love, commitment, and the simple pleasures that make life meaningful. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
