Joan Alice Fulton Williams was born on August 10, 1935 in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania. She was one of two girls born to Jack and Erma Schippert Fulton. She graduated from Upper Darby High School in Upper Darby, New Jersey.

Joan lived many places across the country until settling in Pella in 1979. She had worked at the US Bank, the Christian Opportunity Center, and most recently as a pharmaceutical technician at the Wal-Mart Pharmacy. Joan attended the First Reformed Church in Pella and was an active member of the choir.

Joan leaves behind her daughter Laura Rietveld and her husband Chad of Leighton, Iowa; her sister Carole Casey of Winchester, Idaho; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
