IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joyce
Hackert
March 25, 1939 – March 19, 2025
Lavonne Joyce Hackert was born March 25, 1939, to Arthur and Marie (Van Gorp) Hoksbergen, in Mahaska County, Iowa.
Joyce attended Cherry Grove and Hickory Grove School, and was a graduate of New Sharon High School in 1957.
On June 10, 1966, she was united in marriage to Larry Gene Hackert at Third Reformed Church in Pella. Joyce worked as a clerk in the Pella city offices for a decade until Kimberly arrived. After her kids were all school-age she worked with Larry, helping him lay flooring more days than not for the next 30 years.
She was always very active. She worked on the farm, pitched for her school softball team, and played on a six-player state qualifying basketball team. Later in life she could be seen walking or biking around Pella and even tackled RAGBRAI multiple times from ages 55 to 60. She was a meticulous homemaker who also enjoyed traveling and gardening. Cooking for her family and friends was something she took great pride in. Her chocolate chip cookies were legendary and were always a highlight to every trip to grandma's house.
Joyce is survived by her husband Larry and their family:
Kimberly (Steve) Wermerskirchen
Abigail, Elise
Aidan
Kevin (Kara) Hackert
Lilia, Adrianna, Isabella
Kirk (Miriam) Timmer-Hackert
Rosemary, Henry
She is also survived by her siblings: Ken Hoksbergen, Wanda Bokhoven, and Karen Levison, and brothers-in-law Marvin (Bretna) Hackert and Gary Cottington.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Marie Hoksbergen, step-mother Martha Hoksbergen, parents-in-law Henry and Johanna Hackert, and sister-in-law Phyllis Cottington.
