Obituary

Joyce Ann Mattox was born September 7, 1953, to Jerry Richard and Dora Louise (Palmer) Byers, in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Joyce attended Oskaloosa schools until Middle School and then attended Pella Community Schools where she graduated in 1971.

On October 7, 1972, she was united in marriage to Randy Mattox, and later divorced. From this union they welcomed three children: Michelle, Matt, and Marc. Joyce was a stay-at-home Mom while her children were young and then she began working in Client Services for Meredith, which later became EDS where she worked in Inventory Systems Management and retired after 25 years.

She was the beloved mother of three children, who will forever treasure her love, guidance, and unwavering support. She continued that legacy with her six grandchildren, supporting them in all their activities as much as she could.

For 20 years, Joyce proudly volunteered at the Iowa State Fair, becoming a familiar face to countless fairgoers. Her dedication reflected her passion for bringing people together and celebrating the rich traditions of her home state.

Joyce dedicated her life to God and serving her church. A gifted pianist and vocalist, Joyce found immense joy in sharing her music. She was an active member of her church choir. At home, her piano was often a source of melody and warmth.

Joyce is survived by her children:  Michelle Koonce (fiancé Pat Rierson) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and her children Erin, Emily, Erica, and Lizzie.  Matt (Toni) Mattox of Pleasantville, Iowa, and their daughter Danielle. Marc (Cheri) Mattox of Knoxville, Iowa, and their son Cooper.

She is also survived by her siblings Joleen (Lonnie) Gerber of Pella, Iowa; Martha (Rick) Kindley of Knoxville, Iowa; Bruce (Pamela) Byers of Noble, Oklahoma; and brother-in-law Jeff Rost of Greenville, South Carolina.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Jerry and Louise Byers and her sister Janice Rost.
