Joyce Elaine Thompson was born January 8, 1940, to Ralph and Gertrude (Miedema) Van Brogen, in Pella, Iowa.  She passed away at The Cottages in Pella on November 4, 2022, four years to the day of her husband's passing. Joyce grew up and attended grade school and high school in Pella.

Joyce met Paul W. Thompson in the Honey Bee Café in Oskaloosa.  They were married on July 21, 1956, in Ottumwa.  Together they had four children: Rick, Kelly, Marty and Cindy. Joyce worked at Pella Canning Company, Pella Manufacturing, Hilltop, and Pella Community Schools. She loved being a "Lunch Lady" at Webster School and took much pride in being the crossing guard at Lincoln School.

Joyce cherished the time she spent with her kids and grandkids. They lived in and around Pella their married life. Joyce enjoyed fishing, crocheting, camping mushroom hunting, traveling and occasionally she enjoyed going to Prairie Meadows.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Paul, parents Ralph and Gertrude Van Brogen, parents-in-law LeRoy and Mattie (Tusing) Thompson, sister Helen Blommers brother: Donald Van Brogen, brother-in-law Marvin Blommers, sister-in-law Jean Van Brogen, and nephew Mark Blommers.
