Obituary

Junella Mae Verros was born on January 3, 1926, to Bert and Hilda (De Cook) Van Haaften, at the family farm near Pella, Iowa.  She passed away Monday, June 17, 2019, at Zuid Holland-The Cottages in Pella, Iowa, at the age of ninety-three.

As a young girl, she and her siblings walked to Black Oak Center School, where she attended through eighth grade. Before her school day started, she had daily chores, like milking cows. She enjoyed horseback riding with her brother Arnold; they would race down their lane.

On February 7, 1946, June was united in marriage with Maurice Verros at the Third Reformed Church Parsonage in Pella.  It was on the steps of this church where they first met and began dating.  To this union three children were born: Glen, Sharon, and Kathy.

Maurice and June farmed while living in the Knoxville/Pleasantville area until moving to Pella in 1968. She enjoyed making homemade bread and cinnamon rolls when they were living on the farm. June enjoyed working as a nurse's aide at Griffin and West Ridge nursing homes in Knoxville and Pella Hospital for 24 years. Later she was a housekeeper at Hilltop North until she was 73. She greeted everyone with a, "Good morning, how are you?"  June's granddaughter Carla says chocolate is one of four main food groups and Grandma agreed! June was a faithful member of Trinity Reformed Church. June and Maurice took many family vacations to Branson, and traveled to Canada, Hawaii, Washington, California, and Illinois enjoying a riverboat ride.  June has always enjoyed singing and it was a favorite part of her day at The Cottages.

June is survived by her three children and their families:

Glen (Stella) Verros of Crest Hill, Illinois

Doug Verros

Ashley Verros

Colten Hall Verros

Sharon (Richard) Maddy of Bremerton, Washington

She is also survived by her brother, Arnold Van Haaften of Altoona, and her sister: Joanne De Vries of Pella.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Maurice, and her sisters: Geraldine Hughes and Madelyn Ruud.
