Obituary

Kenneth Bevan Van Maanen was born July 2, 1929, to Charles and Elizabeth (Dykstra) Van Maanen, in Leighton, Iowa.

Ken attended Black Oak No. 6 School through eighth grade. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in April 1951, he served in Korea, and was honorably discharged in April 1953. He was a member of the American Legion.

On December 27, 1950, he was united in marriage to Betty Rempe, in the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Leighton. To this union, they were blessed with three sons: Larry Bruce, Jeffrey C. and Keith D.

Ken was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church where he taught Sunday School, served on the Consistory and was a member of the Brotherhood. He also served on several committees: director at FSB, many years with Youth for Christ in Oskaloosa, and the Pella Ambulance. He was a founding board member of Bibles for Missions, now Legacy Thrift Center.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Betty of 73 years, and their family:

Ken was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Elizabeth Van Maanen, parents-in-law Henry and Dena Rempe; sisters: Junella (Conrad) Van Maanen, Bernice Van Maanen, and Charlotte (Bill) Drost, also his siblings-in-law: Henry (Carol) Rempe, Clarice (John) Roozeboom, and Rube Steenhoek.
