Laurine Van Maanen was born on May 31, 1925, to Yella Z. and Sarah (Witzenburg) Menninga at their rural home near Pella, Iowa. She attended a country school through the 8th grade. Laurine met William D. Van Maanen at the Monroe Old Settlers and they were married on December 21, 1945. To this union was born a son, Donald Lee, on June 22, 1949, and a daughter Linda Joy, on November 19, 1951.

Bill and Laurine farmed for many years and moved to Pella in January of 1968. For several years they managed the Montgomery Wards store on Franklin Street. After the store closed, Bill went to work at Vermeer Manufacturing and Laurine worked at Lee's Variety.

Laurine loved working outside with Bill on the farm. She loved to garden and did a lot of canning to provide winter meals for her family.

Laurine and Bill loved to travel. They took many trips across the United States and traveled to Holland to visit relatives. They were the support team for many of the Vermeer Corporation bike rides. They also loved attending Bluegrass Gospel concerts.

For several years they enjoyed living in Donna, Texas, during the winter months.

Laurine made profession of her faith at the First Christian Reformed Church in Pella, and was currently a member of the Covenant Reformed Church.

Laurine is survived by her husband Bill, and the following children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren:

She is also survived by her brother-in-law Harold Van Maanen and his wife Marie, sister-in-law Mildred Van Maanen, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Andrew and Cecil Menninga, her sister-in-law Marie Gossage and her husband George. She was also preceded in death by Bill's parents, Gilbert and Cora (Van Hall) Van Maanen, and his siblings and their spouses: John and Bertha Slings, Martin and Tillie Vos, John Van Maanen, and Luella Van Maanen.
