Lee R. Hendricks was born on April 1, 1933, to William and Pearl Martin Hendricks near Reasnor, Iowa. He completed the eighth grade at the Brown Country School southeast of Galesburg, Iowa. Following school he helped his Dad on the farm. After getting his chauffer's license, Lee drove a truck for Charles Awtry from Galesburg.
Lee was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict in 1953. Following his discharge in 1955 he resumed farming with his Dad. He farmed until 1994 and then went to work at Pella Corporation for four years, retiring in 1998.
On February 14, 1964, Lee was united in marriage with Doris May at the Sheridan Methodist Church in Malcom, Iowa. They were blessed with one son, Blair.
Lee enjoyed watching NASCAR races and was an avid fan of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He played softball when he was younger. He liked all tractors, especially the red International.
Lee went to his Heavenly Home Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella, Iowa, at the age of eighty. He is survived by his wife, Doris: his son, Blair, of Reasnor; his brother, Bryce (Sara) Hendricks of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; and a niece and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Lee will be remembered as a jolly person who didn't know a stranger. He will be missed by his family.
