Leona Pauline (Van Ryswyk) Ross was born in Jasper County, the fourth daughter of Dick and Catherina (Kloosterman) Van Ryswyk on October 23, 1924. The family moved to Mahaska County, shortly after to the Peoria area.
She lived with her parents until her teen years when she moved to Des Moines in 1944.
She married Jack Ross of Des Moines in 1959 at St. John's Lutheran Church
She continued her education by attending classes at Des Moines Area Community College and Drake University, with a Graduate Diploma from the Institute of Financial Education in Chicago, Illinois.
During that time she pursued a career in the business field-employed as an accountant with Amoco Oil for 15 years and Midland Financial for 24 years. She retired with Officer status in 1987.
After the death of her husband of 37 years, she moved to Pella in 1990. She became a member of Third Reformed Church and spent her time volunteering in various places as needed.
Her interests were music and traveling, having been privileged to visit many foreign countries and most of the states.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Evalena De Penning; and her only brother, Clarence Van Ryswyk.
She leaves behind two sisters, Gerdena Bandstra of Knoxville, Iowa and Mabel Podkovich of Bellevue, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.
