IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lorna M.
Witt
November 27, 1926 – June 21, 2024
Our beloved mother and grandmother Lorna Marie Witt, age 97, passed away June 21, 2024, surrounded by her family at the Cottages of Pella.
She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom and her love. Full of love, laughter and resilience, she touched the lives of all who knew her.
She was born November 27, 1926, in Danbury , Iowa to Clarence and Hilda (Schrank) Otto. Her childhood was filled with the simple joys of midwestern farm life, which laid the foundation for her nurturing spirit.
Lorna graduated from Cushing High School with the class of 1944. She then attended Buena Vista University and taught for one year in a one room country schoolhouse.
On June 10, 1946, she was united in marriage to Edward Henry Witt. She and Edward were blessed with six children who were their pride and joy Michael, Mark, Thomas, Mary, Diana and Jean.
Lorna was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Grandma Witt to 14 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Lorna stayed at home raising her family before working at Baker Drug in Knoxville for many years.
Family was Lorna's biggest blessing in life. She loved to cook and was known for her famous sour cream chocolate cake, potato salad, lime jello salad and cherry mash to name a few.
She loved going for car rides and stopping for ice cream. She was an avid reader and enjoyed needlepoint. She enjoyed her time being a member of the Red Hat Society for a few years. She loved to garden when she was younger and loved planting and tending to her flowers. She loved bird watching from her window and she loved cardinals and had acquired quite the collection of cardinals and cardinal apparel.
In her 97 years of life, Lorna saw many changes, but one thing never changed; her love of family.
Lorna was preceded in death by her loving husband of 78 years Edward Witt, her son Michael Witt, her daughter-in-law Mary Jo Witt, and her granddaughter Emily Jean Ver Heul.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
To commemorate her incredible journey and to celebrate the love she spread, a memorial service will be held in her honor at Terrace Hills Golf Course, Altoona, Iowa, at 5:00 pm, Wednesday, July 24, 2024. We invite all who knew her to join us in remembering a truly remarkable woman.
