Louis Harold Terlouw was born in Sully, Iowa, on September 24, 1933, to John O. Terlouw and Phebe Ann (Renaud) Terlouw. He was the youngest of nine children and attended Chester Grade School and Sully High School.
On October 18, 1954, he married Joan Arlene Versendaal in Sully, Iowa.
To this union were born: Cleo, Lila, Pamela, Carlene, and Rhonda.
Louis served in the Navy at Alameda Naval Station from 1955 to 1957. After the Navy, he continued his work as a mechanic for White Way Auto (Pella), Leydens Auto (Pella), his own business – Terlouw Sales and Service (Monroe). Later he worked in Pella at CT Farm & Country and Arnold Motor Supply.
He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church (Monroe, Iowa) and then at Berean Baptist Church (Pella, Iowa).
He enjoyed all things related to car mechanics and bird watching.
Louis passed away at age 91, on August 2, 2025, at The Cottages.

He is also survived by his sister Theda Fopma of Grinnell, Iowa, and one brother-in-law, Adrian Versendaal of Grinnell, Iowa. In addition, he is survived by many step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Joan's parents, infant son Cleo, and seven of his siblings: Arletta Baarda, Jennie Marie Hurst, Henry Charles Terlouw, Martha Willemsen, Isabelle Vander Weerdt, Marion Terlouw, and Lloyd Terlouw.
