Obituary

Marcia Kay De Jong was born August 18, 1947, to Arie M. and Grace (Vander Leest) Van Haaften in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Marcia grew up on the family farm in the Sandridge community about six miles north of Pella, where she attended country school through seventh grade. When Sandridge School closed, she attended Webster Jr. High and Pella Community High School. Following high school, she worked for Equitable of Iowa in Des Moines for three years as a typist.

On February 23, 1968, she was united in marriage to Myron J. De Jong at her parents' home in Pella. To this union four daughters were born: Michele Kay, Myra Lynn, Marla Ann and Marjorie Marie. Myron died March 18, 1994. On December 28, 2012, she was united in marriage to Gary Wouterse at the Peoria Christian Reformed Church. Gary passed away on August 31, 2018.

Throughout the years, Marcia was a farm wife, loving mother, worked for De Jong Greenhouse, Pella Regional Hospital, and was a janitor for Peoria Christian School. Marcia enjoyed travelling and gardening, and loved league bowling with the Original Bowlers.

Marcia grew up in the First Reformed Church in Sully, and has been a member of the Peoria Christian Reformed Church since 1968, where she was a charter member of Mr. & Mrs. Society, a GEMS counselor, and a member of Bible Searchers Women's Bible Study.

Marcia was preceded in death by her husbands: Myron J. De Jong and Gary M. Wouterse, her parents Arie M. and Grace Van Haaften, parents-in-law Henry W. and Jeannetta De Jong; brothers: Marvin E. Van Haaften in infancy, and Norman R. Van Haaften.
