Margaret Koopmans was born to David and Cecelia (Anderson) Sjolin on May 21, 1926 near Oakes, North Dakota, the youngest of nine children. She attended schools and grew up in North Dakota and Iowa, marrying Gerald "Crip" Koopmans on December 12, 1946. They moved from Pella, IA to Cedar Rapids, IA in 1958 where Margaret lived until returning to Pella in 2002. In 2006 she moved to Ankeny, IA, and became a resident at Madrid Homes late in 2009.

Margaret worked for the Cedar Rapids public schools for 20 years and was a member of First Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids, singing in the church choir and for 26 years with the Cedar Rhapsody chapter of Sweet Adelines.

Margaret is survived by her three sons: Kevin (Diane) Koopmans, Ogden, UT, David (June) Koopmans, Ankeny IA and Kyle (Tina) Koopmans, St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband "Crip" in 1980, her six brothers and two sisters.
