IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margarete
O'Neil
June 27, 1946 – November 30, 2024
Margarete (Peggy) O'Neil was born on June 27, 1946, to Otto and Maria Greiner in Mannheim, Germany and grew up with her older sister Maria and her younger brother Hans. She lived there until moving to the United States in October of 1967 after marrying her first husband. After living in Cleveland, Ohio for many years, life led her to West Virginia. Thirty years to the month after moving to this country, she became a US citizen. In 2006, she moved to Pella, Iowa to be closer to her family.
Peggy loved many things. She loved to read, and credits reading comic books (and some Grapes of Wrath) with helping her learn English. She passed this love on to her children and grandchildren. She loved to cross-stitch, and she gifted many pieces to friends and family. She loved animals, and was a parent to many dogs, cats, and a couple of parakeets over the years. But mostly, she loved her family. She remained close with her former in-laws in Cleveland and visited her family in Germany as much as possible. She was a big part of the lives of her youngest grandchildren, and she loved nothing more than watching them do the things they love, whether it was their short lived soccer careers, gymnastics, or playing one of their many musical instruments.
Peggy is survived by her daughters Marita (Victor) Ries and their daughter, Yvonne, and Shannon (James) Shriver and their children Penelope and Calliope.
A Family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
