Marilyn Faye (Bokhoven)  Vos was born January 1, 1945, to Herman W. Bokhoven Jr. and Marie (Beyer) Bokhoven in the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Marilyn attended Peoria Christian Grade School and was a 1962 graduate of Pella Christian High School, where she was a basketball cheerleader. Marilyn started her career working as a secretary at Vermeer Manufacturing from 1962 – 1965. On July 8, 1965, she was united in marriage to Delmar John Vos in the Peoria Christian Reformed Church. To this union they were blessed with four children: Kevin, Duane, Curt and Lori. Marilyn’s love of flowers, plants and gardening led to their opening Sunnyslope Greenhouse at their home near Leighton in 1988. She earned many purple ribbons for her flowers and vegetables at the Mahaska County Fair. Marilyn recently hung up her flower apron and retired in the spring of 2024.

Marilyn enjoyed vacations, especially trips to Michigan for peaches and blueberries. She loved baking for her children and grandchildren, whose favorite treats were her chocolate chip cookies, homemade muffins and cinnamon rolls. Her Sunday meals were like Thanksgiving feasts, and no one ever left hungry.

Marilyn truly loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart! She could be heard “cheering” from the stands at all their games! She made each one feel so cherished and special!

Marilyn and Delmar looked forward to visiting Army friends every summer. She also enjoyed spending time with her high school classmates.

Marilyn was a member of the Oskaloosa First Christian Reformed Church where she served on the flower committee and was a GEMS leader.

Mom was truly loved by all. She has blessed so many people in her life whether they met her through church, the greenhouse or through a friend of a friend. Whenever we mentioned mom’s name, a smile came to ones face. Our mom has taught us that faith rises you out of any troubles. She has blessed us in so many ways and we are truly thankful for her.

She is also survived by her sister Helen (Lawrence) Roose of Pella, and her brother Bill (Sue) Bokhoven of Denver, Colorado, aunt Anne Bokhoven, several brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, and many nieces and nephews.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Marie Bokhoven, parents-in-law Bernie and Johanna Vos, sister-in-law Jan Pothoven, and brother-in-law Gilmer Nyhof.

Memorials may be given to Pella Christian Schools, Oskaloosa First Christian Reformed Church or Hospice of Pella.
