Marjorie Louise Van Gorp was born on November 4, 1924, at the family home near Sully, Iowa. She was the third of twelve children born to Oney and Katie (Bruxvoort) Arkema. Marjorie passed away at the Oskaloosa Care Center on Sunday, July 14, 2013, at the age of eighty-eight.

Marjorie received her early education at the Sully Christian School. On January 16, 1947, she was united in marriage with Freemon Van Gorp in Sully. They were blessed with four children: Earl, Byron, Lorna, and Warren. The family farmed in the Sully, Oskaloosa, and Leighton area.

In 1955 Marjorie and Freemon became members of the Leighton Christian Reformed Church. Marjorie was an active member of the Mary Bethany Ladies Society. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, crocheting, knitting, sewing, and needlepoint. She was well known for helping family, friends, and neighbors in time of need. She also loved her family life and will be remembered as a loving and caring mother.

Those left to cherish her memory are her four children: Earl and Marcia Van Gorp, Byron and Paulette Van Gorp, Lorna and Carl Nunnikhoven, and Warren Van Gorp; eight grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; her siblings: Bernard and Cornelia Arkema, Betty and Earl Dykema, Alan Arkema, June Rozendaal, Hermina Rolffs, Grace and Harris Van Kooten, Lewis and Jean Arkema, and Edwin and Leona Arkema; the following sisters-in-law: Margaret Van Gorp, Ruth (Vernon) Ringenberg, and Dorothy Vander Pol; and two brothers-in-law: Verlan (Marilyn) Van Gorp, and Eugene (Luanna) Van Gorp.

Marjorie was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband in 1999; her siblings: John and Iva Arkema, Dormand and Beulah Arkema, Jr. Rozendaal, Henry Rolffs, and Nelson and Dorothy Arkema.
