Obituary

Marti was born on July 2, 1947, to John and Fern (Meinders) Blauw in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She died on March 1, 2016, in Pella, Iowa.

Marti was a 1965 graduate of Pella Community High School, and moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1966. She began her career with AT&T in 1966, worked there for 30 years, and retired in 1996. During this time, she earned an Associate's Degree from Johnson County Community College, a B.A. from Ottawa University, and an M.A. from Webster University. All of her degrees were in Computer Information Systems.

Marti found Christ while living in Kansas City. She attended Broadway Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1974, she joined Birchwood Baptist Church in Independence, Missouri. She transferred her membership to Beth Haven Church in North Kansas City, Missouri in 1977, where she was a faithful attendee for many years. Her favorite Bible teacher is Dr. Charles Swindoll of Insight for Living. Marti was a member of Second Presbyterian singles and Birchwood singles. She served as treasurer and president of Second Presbyterian singles. She was also a member of a bible study group and a guitar group. Marti took organ and guitar lessons, but gave them up due to work responsibilities, she even tried playing the saxophone. Her favorite music was something with a rhythm. She also liked jazz, country, rock and roll, and Southern gospel programs. She loved the music of the Gaither Vocal Band.

During her lifetime, she enjoyed gardening, embroidery, crafts, sewing, music, reading, and watching television. She was also an avid reader. She loved her books, books, books! Marti sewed her own clothing and was a frequent visitor at the area fabric stores. She took many classes to improve her sewing.

A few months after retirement, she moved to Pella, Iowa. Marti volunteered for the Historical Society, taught a semester at Central College, enjoyed her house and yard, and corresponding with friends around the country.

Marti enjoyed attending her nephews sporting and band events. Family times were important to Marti - always ready to share her very dry sense of humor.
