Martin Donkersloot III was born August 18, 1956, in Passaic, New Jersey, to Martin and June (Walsh) Donkersloot.  Martin "Marty" was baptized at the Bethel Reformed Church in Passaic.

Marty attended school in Woodbridge, New Jersey, and in 1978, as an adult, moved to the North Jersey Developmental Center in Woodbridge.

When his parents moved to Pella, Iowa, in 1993, Marty came to live and work at Pella's Christian Opportunity Center.

Marty is survived by his brother Robert "Bob" of Washington, Iowa, an aunt, Dr. Grace Napier of Greeley, Colorado, two sisters-in-law, two nieces and four nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Martin and June, and his brother Reverend William "Bill" Donkersloot.
