IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary
Blommers
January 1, 1947 – August 6, 2025
Mary Ann Blommers was born on January 1, 1947, to Jacob and Evelyn (Nugteren) De Koning. She passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
Mary lived in the Pella area her entire life. She was a graduate of Pella High School and worked as a cashier at Walmart for nearly 30 years. Mary was united in marriage to Arthur Blommers. Together they welcomed four children: Carol Joy, Linda Kay, Bradley Gene and Calvin Wayne.
Of all the joys in her life, family came first. She loved cooking and baking her family's favorite dishes, especially on holidays. You never left hungry after eating at Mary's.
Mary enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and making afghans and gifts for many friends and family. She loved the Iowa State Fair and one of the highlights of her crocheting was when she entered a few of her projects into competition at the Iowa State Fair and won many ribbons. She was always making crafts, especially Diamond Art projects, which she often gifted. Mary loved her flowers, especially the African Violets. She was always on the hunt for new flowers to plant outside. A special accomplishment was finishing a quilt started by her mother and gifted it to her daughter, Carol. Mary was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, never missing a televised game.
Those left to cherish her memory: Arthur Blommers, her children, Linda Blommers and Duane Wyma of Malcom, IA, Brad Blommers of New Sharon, IA; grandchildren: Kayla and Brittni Wyma, Devon Blommers and wife Amber and Brady Blommers: great grandson, Calvin and her brother Dennis De Koning and sister Diana De Koning Kordick-Bower (Dwight) as well as her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her daughter Carol Hamre, son, Calvin Blommers; parents, Jake and Evelyn De Koning, parents-in-law David and Stella Blommers; brother, Jerry De Koning and brother-in-law, Phil Kordick.
Mary's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of love and support these last few weeks.
