Mary May Dickinson was born on August 19, 1946, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Marian (Jones) and Richard Cox. She passed away at the Comfort House-Hospice of Pella on June 11, 2013 at the age of 66.
Mary grew up in rural Batavia, Iowa, graduated from Pekin Community Schools and completed college at Northeast Missouri State (Truman State College). She lived in Pella since 1969 and was employed for 33 years as the Pella High School Business Teacher.
On June 23, 1973, she was united in marriage to Richard Dickinson in Fairfield, Iowa. Daughter Carrie and son Todd made the family complete.
Mary enjoyed teaching, raising her family, and being a grandmother. In her free time she liked reading, sewing and crafting. She enjoyed gathering with old friends for coffee in town. Mary was a loving wife, a loyal friend, was outgoing and the rock of her family.
Those left to cherish her memory are the following: her husband, Dick, of Pella; her daughter, Carrie (Carter) Spoelstra, of Ankeny; son, Todd (Shawna) Dickinson, of New Hampton; her four grandchildren, Paige Spoelstra, Faith Spoelstra, Chloe Bittner, and Gavin Dickinson; her brothers, Dale (Eunice) Cox of Swedesberg; David (Brenda) Cox of Ollie; and John Cox of Lisbon; and her mother-in-law, Irene Dickinson, of Birmingham, Iowa.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, Marian and Richard Cox and father-in-law Charles Dickinson.
