Maurice Glen Verros was born on November 15, 1922, to William and Grace Den Hartog Verros at the family farm home near Harvey, Iowa. He passed away Sunday evening, July 20, 2014, at Gelderland-The Cottages in Pella, Iowa, at the age of ninety-one.

Maurice attended Ida Grove Country School, a one room school, through the 8th grade. One winter he remembers being the only student (besides the teacher) for a week during a bad storm. Since no other students came by noon they could call it a day and go home. During his sophomore year of high school, he had to stay home to help care for his mother, who passed away at the young age of 42.

One of the many stories Maurice had shared is of his family going to town on Saturday evenings and coming home with a store-bought loaf of bread and a ring of bologna. What a treat that loaf of bread was!

On February 7, 1946, Maurice was united in marriage with June Van Haaften at the Third Reformed Church Parsonage in Pella. It was on the steps of this church where they first met and began dating. To this union three children were born: Glen, Sharon, and Kathy.

Maurice and June farmed while living in the Pleasantville/Knoxville area until moving to Pella in 1968. He also worked at Pella Corporation for eleven years. After retirement he worked as a custodian at Lincoln Elementary School in Pella where he enjoyed seeing his granddaughter every day and getting to know the other students as well.

He was a faithful member of Trinity Reformed Church in Pella. He enjoyed woodworking and remodeling. Maurice was well known for his sense of humor, being a kind and easy-going man, and a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.

Maurice is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, June; his three children and their families; and a brother, Don Verros and his wife, Deb of Harvey, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Pauline and her two husbands, Elmer Vander Linden and Matt Olivier; and his sister-in-law, Nancy Van Zomeren Verros.
