Melvin Earl Harthoorn of Sully, Iowa, passed away February 28, 2007 at the age of sixty-five years, eleven months, and fourteen days. Melvin was a son of Cornelius and Cornelia (Jansen) Harthoorn. He was born on March 14, 1941 near Lynnville, Iowa. He was raised in the Lynnville area. He graduated from Lynnville Grade School and Lynnville-Sully High School. He made profession of his faith in the Sully Christian Reformed Church. At the time of his death he was a member of the Third Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa.
Melvin was united in marriage with Lois Vande Voort on June 30, 1961 at the Sully Christian Reformed Church. They were blessed with four children: Craig, Bryan, Kevin, and Peggy.
Melvin farmed many years in the Lynnville and Sully areas. He later worked at the Vermeer Manufacturing Company in Pella, Iowa, and Cross Implement in Killduff, Iowa. He also served on the Sully Christian School Board and for many years on the Sully Coop Board.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lois and their children, spouses, and grandchildren: Craig and Karlyn (Schnell), Krystal, Keisha, and Corey of Parnell, Iowa; Bryan and Molly (Vriezelaar), Kristopher, Samuel, and Hannah of Pella, Iowa; Kevin and Sue (Anema), Kara, Landon, Jaron, and Alex of Sanborn, Iowa; and Peggy and her husband David Hofer, Darin and Ryan of Lynnville, Iowa. He is also survived by: his mother Cornelia Harthoorn of Pella, Iowa; his brother Carroll and his wife Norma of Sully, Iowa; his sisters Leona and her husband Ed Arkema of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Linda and her husband Delmar Zuidema of Pella, Iowa.
Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Cornelius.
