IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nancy Ann
Sipala
August 29, 1944 – February 14, 2023
The charming Nancy Ann Sipala lived a full and exuberant life of 78 years. She was the fourth of six children, born and raised in The Bronx, NY of Puerto Rican descent to Pura and Joseph Davila. She attended St. Athanasius for elementary and St. Helena's for middle and high school, where she was known for her vibrant personality and social involvement. For decades, she used her variety of skills with hospitality working as a receptionist for two law firms in NYC. There, her smile and welcoming nature were contagious and brightened up any room.
Nancy was full of passion and energy. She loved to dance and travel, and thrived being the life of the party. She loved God, her family and friends, and held many gatherings at her home. Her signature style was lively colors, bright lipstick, colorful earrings, a flower in her hair, and a big hat. A natural public speaker, she gave memorable toasts, shared intricate stories, and took the annual role leading the family Christmas carols. She loved going to church, learning big words, playing boggle, decorating for the holidays, praying for people, greeting everyone in her midst, and being patriotic. But most of all, she loved singing – in the elevator, the hallways, at gatherings, and in the streets. Music was her true love language.
Nancy is preceded by her two siblings (Hector Nacimento and Esther Danoy); she is survived by her three siblings (Innocenta Nacimento, Mary Ann Scotese (Jim), and Paul Davila), her three children (Andrew DeCurtis, Lisa Luna DeCurtis (Eric Hansotte), and Christine DeCurtis), her husband (Joseph Sipala of 31 years), and her three grandchildren whom she adored and couldn't get enough of (Luke, 15, Landon, 11, and Davida, 6).
In the last year of her life, this life-long New Yorker bravely chose to begin anew and move to Pella, IA – The City of Refuge – a people she absolutely loved and a place she called home. There, she and Joe thrived as the community welcomed her with open arms and loved her dearly. She'll be remembered and cherished for the excitement she brought to all interactions, big or small. How glorious that she's dancing on the streets of gold and in her forever home.
