Patricia Ann Rietveld Van Waardhuizen was the first of two children born to Albert R. and Cora (Ver Ploeg) Rietveld. She was born November 4, 1933 at their country home near Otley, Iowa. Patricia attended country school and graduated from Pella High School with the class of 1952. Pursuing a career in nursing, she received her RN degree from Ottumwa Indian Hills College in 1972. Patricia was employed at the Pella Regional Health Center as a nurse's aid and then became an RN and supervisor of the OB Department. She retired after thirty-seven years of service.

On April 17, 1953 Patricia was united in marriage with Elmer John Van Waardhuizen at the Second Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Craig, Kathleen, and Valerie. The family made their home in Pella, Iowa.

Those left to honor her life are her husband of nearly fifty-five years, Elmer; their three children and their spouses; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents and her brother John.

Patricia was a member of Third Reformed Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir, Bible study groups, nursery, and the quilt group. Her love for people was fulfilled through her family and her role as an OB supervisor welcoming new babies into the world. Music, playing hymns, knitting, and reading were her hobbies.

She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and will be missed by all those who knew her.
