Obituary

"He has showed you O, man what, is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."   Micah 6:8

Patrick Farquharson was born in 1951 in Huntington, West Virginia, to Mildred and Peter Farquharson. Sadly, at the age of 7 he lost his father to tuberculosis. This left a profound desire in him to carry on his father's Scottish traditions. He loved researching his heritage and sharing with his family. Later in life he was able to meet family members and visit his father's hometown in Scotland.

After graduating from Meridian high school in Michigan, Pat met Jacci Hurley. He won her over with a smooth pick-up line during her visit to the repair shop he worked, and after 53 years of marriage she still knows the line by heart. Pat and Jacci raised their family of four kids in Hope, Michigan and later New Milford, Connecticut. Pat was proud to be a union pipe fitter and welder and even found a way to use these skills to craft hand made belt buckles for friends and family.

He was the yell at the news, answer all the Jeopardy questions and fix everything kind of guy. If you knew him then you knew you didn't touch the walls or glass and if you left a mark, there was never a bad time for him to repaint it or wash a car. He was the original DIYer and found joy in making things last. At any given point he knew the mileage on his car and had a list of things to do. You won't find many pieces of wooden furniture or toys in our houses that weren't built by his hands. He instilled in us the importance of hard work, honesty, service, and a personal relationship with Jesus.

We also admire his relentless desire to never look away when there was a need, and we cherish letters written to lawmakers to enact change. The most important issues to him were those that involved children and those down on their luck. When an apartment fire in another town claimed the lives of innocent children, he was quick to investigate and when he learned the building lacked the proper sprinkler system then he went into action. This began his continued advocacy for fire safety codes being enforced. Pat also couldn't rest knowing there were others in our town who had to sleep outside. He worked alongside other concerned community members to organize churches and volunteers to provide shelter. Pat knew them all by name and was proud to know their stories.

In 2018 Pat started to experience debilitating health issues. He sought help from multiple specialists to no avail. During this battle, he and Jacci relocated to Pella, Iowa. Later he was diagnosed with Parkinsons disease. In the fall, Pat became an in-home hospice patient of the Angels on Earth hospice team, Wesley Life. Christmas was always a special time to Pat and it was during this time on January 2nd, 2025, that we said good-bye. We are deeply proud of the full life he lived before he became sick and his undeniable resilience throughout his six-year battle.

Pat is survived by his wife, Jacci and children, Tami (Pat) Beatty, Peter (Amy) Farquharson, Frankie Farquharson (Greg Van Arendonk), and PJ Farquharson (Erik Brown). His favorite role was being Pop to Kristin, Patrick, Joshua, Molly-Lynn, William, Finlay, Ella, Peter, and Andrew. He was G-Pop to his three great grandchildren, Zachary, Blair and Daphne. He is also survived by his brothers, Thomas Farquharson, Michael Farquharson and John Reisig, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family who share in so many beloved memories.

Our family is deeply grateful for the above and beyond care he received from the Wesley Life hospice team that showed him compassion until the very end.
