Peggy Jean Vines was born on April 15, 1925, in Lewisville, Arkansas, to George and Kathleen (Cone) Patten. She passed away on August 6, 2016, with her family by her side. Peggy was the second of four children. She moved around a lot in her childhood due to her father's job as a telegraph operator with the railroad.

Peggy graduated from high school in Jonesboro, Arkansas in 1949. She went to work to help support her family. She had two dresses - one for church and one for work.

Cecil Vines met Peggy on a blind date and three months later they were married in August of 1950. They moved to Pella in 1952 when Cecil became the Vocational Agriculture teacher at Pella High School. They were very active, faithful members of the First Baptist Church.

Peggy and Cecil were blessed with four children: Thom, Kathy, Jason, and Greg. The twelve grandchildren who followed called them "Pa and Nanny". She was always ready and willing to help baby-sit, and made quilts for each of them.

For 17 years Peggy worked at Central College in the International Studies office. Cecil and Peggy enjoyed golfing together for many years. She also loved watching golf on TV, as well as Matlock shows. She had an independent spirit and loved adventure; at 75, she went river rafting. Peggy was the rock of her family and took great joy in caring for them. She will also be missed for her somewhat "accidental" sense of humor.

Her daughter, Kathy, remembers her friends' parents calling Peggy on the phone just to hear her southern accent.

Peggy is also survived by her brother George and Bette Patten, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil, granddaughter Kelsey, and siblings: Dorothy Craig and Bonnie Vogle.
