Obituary

Randal Eugene Boot was the eldest child, born March 1, 1955, to Arie and Alveretta (VanDenBerg) Boot in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Randy attended Pella Christian Grade School and was a 1974 graduate of Pella Christian High School. During his junior year of high school he began On the Job training at Vermeer Manufacturing and was employed there until his death.

Randy met Kathleen "Kathy" Van Waardhuizen through friends and they were united in marriage at Third Reformed Church on August 28, 1976. To this union they were blessed with two children: Matthew and Jennifer.

Randy grew up in Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella, where he was baptized and made profession of faith. After marriage they attended Faith CRC. He was a Cadet counselor and co-taught Sunday school with Kathy. He then became involved with Cursillo, including taking mission trips to Belize. He volunteered many hours at the Pella Mango Tree. He recently became a member of Third Reformed Church, where he felt challenged by Pastor Kevin Korver to grow in his Christian walk.

In his younger years Randy had horses; he participated in many rodeos and broke horses. He was also involved in the community; he built floats for the Pella Historical Society Tulip Time parades for 17 years. He enjoyed woodworking and making items for his family; and took great pride in maintaining their acreage. He and Kathy enjoyed traveling, but his greatest joy was being Grandpa Twerp to Jenna and Papa to Henry.

Throughout his adult life he struggled with many health issues. Through prayer, hard work, and support from his family he learned to live with his limitations and was a witness to others. Praise God he has been set free.

Those left to remember him are his wife of 40 years Kathy. His son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Anna Boot of Adel, Iowa, their son Henry and baby girl due in March. His daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Tim Lunkley of Pella, Iowa, and their daughter Jenna. His father Arie W. Boot of Johnston, Iowa and his sister Vicky Stringer of Johnston, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his infant brother Kevin, his mother Alveretta, and parents-in-law Elmer and Patricia Van Waardhuizen.
