Obituary

Rodney Alan Meyer was born January 19, 1949, to Gerald and Alice (Swalwell) Meyer, and grew up on the family farm near Newton, Iowa.

Rod attended Newton High School and graduated in 1967. He then went on to Muscatine Jr. College and the Southern Illinois University before enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served for six years. Rod was stationed in Rota Naval Base in Spain where he was a Cryptologic Technician. He reached the rank of Petty Officer Second Class before he was honorably discharged.

On August 21, 1969, he was united in marriage to Candy Cleverley in the Congregational Church of Christ in Baxter, Iowa. To this union they were blessed with three children: Chad, Kristen and Jolee. Rod worked at local co-ops before becoming a Cenex sales representative at the Sully Co-Op. Rod enjoyed wood working of all kinds. He also grew pumpkins and popcorn to share with his family and friends. He enjoyed working on his John Deere tractors and loved spending time on his family farm, which became known as his happy place. He wanted to pass his love for the farm along to his family. Rod was currently attending Sully Community Church. He was always tinkering and enjoyed trying to fix things. He always had a project going, whether it was making furniture to give away or fixing the perpetually broken lawn mower! Rod was a family man who always made time for everyone, especially his grandkids. He was never happier than when at a grandkids' activity or measuring their heights on the kitchen wall.

Rod was preceded in death by his parents Alice and Gerald Meyer and parents-in-law Frank and Dolores Cleverley.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Candy, and their family:
