Obituary

Sandra Ann Heerema was born January 31, 1940, to Robert and Doretha (Vogelaar) Klein.

Sandy attended Pella Community High School and graduated in 1958.  Sandy's senior year she was faced with a dilemma when her steady boyfriend could not come back to town to escort her to the Tulip Queen and Court's Dance.  Knowing what a good dancer her friend and fellow classmate Bruce Heerema was, she decided to ask him to escort her instead.  It turned out to be a very good decision!  Bruce and Sandy were united in marriage 2 years later on June 16, 1960.  Julie Ann was born the following summer between Sandy's junior and senior year at central, luckily with 2 sets of grandparents and very willing aunts and uncles in town to help out.  Sandy graduated from Central in 1962 with a business degree and after Bruce graduated the following winter she put her homesickness on the back burner and followed her husband's dream of playing semi pro football on the east coast for 2 years.  After returning to Pella Sandy settled back into the life she loved, Martin Timothy was born in 1965, and Steven Robert was born in 1970.  The many things she loved not necessarily in order (and some early on but not later); her family, her friends, gardening, playing bridge, playing tennis, traveling the world with her husband and family and friends, garden club, flower arranging, selling tulip bulbs, baby monkeys, tour of homes, playing marathon, reading, people magazines, crossword puzzles, white chocolate, chardonnay, flower judging, horticulture, turtles (as in the chocolate ones), being social and being alone she was her own woman.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children and families:
