Obituary

Sandra Sue Vandenberg was born July 29, 1951, the  fourth daughter of John and Harriet (Lemkuil) Vandenberg. She passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on September 30, 2021. Sandy attended Lincoln Elementary and graduated from Pella High School and Central College. Sandy retired in 2010 from Iowa Workforce Development where she made many lifelong friends. Sandy loved music and had a beautiful singing voice. She played the piano, sang in the church choir, and enjoyed playing and singing with her sisters at family gatherings. She was a great cook. Her family especially looked forward to her homemade chocolates. Sandy loved to travel with family and friends. Sandy treasured family time with her sisters and took much pleasure spending time with her nieces and nephews. She was their biggest cheerleader and proud supporter.  She will be remembered as being kind and thoughtful and having a contagious laugh and easy smile. Those left to cherish her memory are her sisters: Margaret and Bill Heiker of Cohasset, MN, Pat Klein of Altoona, IA, Barbara and Allen Van Dyke of Newton, IA, Kris and Jeff Van Maanen of Pella, IA, and Jan and T Yamanaka of Tokyo, Japan; 14 nieces and nephews and 42 great-nieces and nephews.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and her nephew Billy Heiker. Her nephew David Van Dyke passed away on October 4, 2021.
