Shirley Grace Cogley was born November 14, 1936, to Harold and Ruby (Hasselman) Klyn. Shirley grew up in Sully, Iowa, most of her life. She was a 1952 graduate of Sully High School.

Shirley had various jobs, Grinnell Hospital, Grinnell Telephone Company and United Telephone Company in Newton, when she met her husband Larry. They were married on May 4, 1957, and had 57 years together. As Larry was in the United States Air Force, stationed at Vandenberg Air Force Base, they moved to California where Shirley worked at Bank of America until his discharge. They then moved back to Iowa. Larry and Shirley were blessed with four children: Steven, David, Terry and Scott.

Shirley was a member of First Baptist Church in Pella.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son David Cogley, daughter Terry Morales, daughter-in-law Connie Cogley, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her brother Keith Klyn.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Larry Cogley, two sons: Steven Cogley and Scott Cogley, granddaughter Misty Torres, parents Harold and Ruby Klyn, sister-in-law Evelyn Klyn, and Larry's siblings: Don, Paul, Jerry, Phil, and Dorothy.
