Shirley Serrano was born December 18, 1945, to Jelle and Anna (Kuiken) De Vries at their home in Kollumerpomp, Friesland, the Netherlands. Shirley and her family immigrated to the United States in 1949, and settled near Leighton.  Shirley attended the Reformed Bible College in Illinois. In 1969, she moved to Florida, and worked as a beautician.

In 1972, Shirley was united in marriage to Robert Serrano, in Florida. Shirley joined her husband in the family's jewelry and antique business.

Those left to cherish her memory are her siblings: Cobie (Bernie) Spoelstra, Fran Poortinga, and Durk De Vries, sister-in-law Linda (Hans) Kuny and her step-son Robert Levine.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Robert Serrano, her parents Jelle and Anna De Vries, her brothers: John S. and Alberta De Vries, and Jerry De Vries, and her brother-in-law Duane Poortinga.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Pella Christian Grade School.
