Syburn De Vries was born February 27, 1932, to Wiebe and Gertrude (Bennink) De Vries, in Peoria, Iowa.
Syburn graduated from Peoria Christian School. Following school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1955.
On December 20, 1955, he was united in marriage to Jo Ann Van Haaften. To this union, they were blessed with two children: Wendell Gene and Clarinda Joan. Syburn farmed on the family farm then worked at Vermeer Sales & Service locations in Pella; Memphis, Tennessee; and Russellville, Arkansas.
On February 27, 1988, he was united in marriage to Judy Van Arkel.
Syburn made profession of faith at the Protestant Reformed Church in Pella. He was currently a member of Covenant Reformed Church. Syburn enjoyed volunteering at Mobility Worldwide in Leighton, Iowa.

Syburn is survived by his wife Judy, his sisters: Gertrude Visser of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Joyce Heynen of Sioux Center, Iowa; sister-in-law Nancine (Richard) Jass of Ankeny, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.
Syburn was preceded in death by his parents Wiebe and Gertrude De Vries, parents-in-law Russel and Mabelle Van Arkel, brother and sister-in-law: Harold and Leona De Vries, and brothers-in-law: E. Robert Visser, and William Heynen.
