Virginia Lou "Ginny" Dettmann was born December 25, 1929, to Louis and Ellenora (Nielsen) Dettman, in Gilmore City, Iowa. She passed away on January 18, 2017, in Pella, Iowa.

Ginny graduated from Emmetsburg High School and the Iowa Beauty Academy of Des Moines.

On June 3, 1956, Ginny was united in marriage to William Kerns. To this union they were blessed with two children: Kaye and Kyle. Ginny and Bill farmed in Marathon where she ran her own beauty shop and raised her family. They retired to Midway, Arkansas, in 1993, and Bill passed away in 2009. In May 2016, Ginny moved to Pella. Ginny was a loving person who cared for her family. She was very generous and fun-loving with a positive attitude and a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed her flowers, knitting, quilting, dancing, playing cards, and enjoyed helping with the Albert City Thresherman Show. Ginny was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Ginny was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon, Iowa, Christ By The Lake Lutheran Church in Bull Shoals, Arkansas, and most recently Peace Lutheran Church in Pella, Iowa. She enjoyed Bible Study, taught Sunday School and was very active in Church activities.

Ginny is also survived by her sister Mary Hagerman of Council Bluffs, Iowa. Sisters and brother-in-law: Barb Kerns of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Jim and Carol Kerns of Republic, Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ginny was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, and brothers-in-law Ken Hagerman and Donald Kerns.
