Obituary

Wilbur Lee Nunnikhoven was born on November 7, 1931, to Anthony J. and Bertha Slykhuis Nunnikhoven on the family farm near Knoxville, Iowa. He was the middle child of seven boys born into the family. He received his early education in rural Marion County schools.

Wilbur farmed his entire life... nineteen years south of Pella and in 1974 he purchased a farm south of Leighton where he currently resided.

On January 19, 1954 Wilbur was united in marriage with Dorothy Langstraat at the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. To this union eight children were born: Gary, Douglas, Sandra, Leon, Lyle, Karla, Pamela, Sally. The children were of great help to Wilbur and Dorothy on the farm and many continue in the profession today.

Wilbur loved Tulip Time, holiday parties, grandkids' school events, farming, and reminiscing with his six brothers. He was a hard worker, a good father and husband with a soft heart. He also enjoyed playing cards and dominoes.

Wilbur made profession of faith at the Third Reformed Church and later he and Dorothy became members of Trinity Reformed Church in Pella.

Wilbur went to his eternal home on Friday, March 9, 2012, at Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa, Iowa at the age of eighty.

Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife of fifty-eight years, Dorothy; his eight children and their spouses: Gary and Sandra Nunnikhoven of Harvey, Douglas and Jayne Nunnikhoven of Pella, Sandra and Rex Bloem of Indianola, Leon and Joyce Nunnikhoven of New River, Arizona, Lyle and Sharon Nunnikhoven of Oskaloosa, Karla and Doyle Wyngarden of Puyallup, Washington, Pamela and David Bryan of Montezuma, Sally and Keith Foster of New Sharon; twenty-three grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; six brothers: Abraham J. (Esther) Nunnikhoven of Pella, Martin (Leona) Nunnikhoven of Pella, Marvin (Dorothy) Nunnikhoven of Oskaloosa, Anthony Jr. (JoAnn) Nunnikhoven of Waukee, Gerald Nunnikhoven of Pella, and Merle (Erma) Nunnikhoven of Pella.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters-in-law: Bertha (of Anthony Jr.) Nunnikhoven and Delores (of Gerald) Nunnikhoven.
