IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wilma De
Zwarte
April 4, 1921 – March 16, 2012
Wilma Alice (Dunsbergen) De Zwarte was born on April 4, 1921, to Barney and Alida (Carbo) Dunsbergen in a fourteen-room farm house on the George Schnell Farms in Buena Vista Township. She received her early education in the Jasper County Schools-- Spring Hill School and Highland School. Wilma went to her eternal home on Friday, March 16, 2012, at the Wesley Acres Assisted Living, Des Moines at the age of ninety.
On February 1, 1940, Wilma was united in marriage with Bernard De Zwarte at her parents' home near Kellogg, Iowa. They were blessed with three children: Carroll Dwayne, Linda Lou, and Glen Murray. Wilma and Bernard enjoyed and took pride in their farmland where they raised crops and livestock; and Wilma loved being a homemaker. After sixty-six years of marriage, Bernard passed away October 24, 2006. Wilma lived on the same farm from 1947 to 2011.
Bernard and Wilma made their confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ together at the First Reformed Church in Sully a few weeks before they were married. Wilma was very active in the church where she taught Sunday School, was a Family Night teacher, and was a member of the Martha Circle for over fifty years. She was also a member of the Farm Bureau Club. Her favorite hobbies were sewing, quilting, crocheting, cleaning, cooking, baking, gardening, working with her flowers, writing, reading, and family genealogy. Her family was her pride and joy and each one was "special."
Those left to cherish her memory are her three children and their spouses: Carroll and Rosalie (Van Wyk) De Zwarte, Linda and Dennis Van Maanen, and Glen and Carol (Van Roekel) De Zwarte; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and her sisters-in-law: Marjorie Van Genderen and Reva Van Wyk.
Preceding her in death: her parents, Barney and Alida Dunsbergen; her parents-in-law, Marinus and Maggie (Goemaat) De Zwarte; an infant brother Bennie; two brothers and their wives: Ben and Margaret Dunsbergen and Bob and Anna Mae Dunsbergen; her sister and her husband: Nellie and Everett Jansen; in-laws: Leona and John Van Manen, Paul Van Genderen, and Clarence Van Wyk.
