Benjamin Van Dyke Obituary

Benjamin Ray Van Dyke was born December 30, 1971, to Alvin and Milly (Van Sant) Van Dyke in Pella, Iowa.  He passed away on October 14, 2021, at Northern Mahaska Specialty Care in Oskaloosa.

Ben married Rita Kay Olson/Sherman on August 24, 1994. To this union, Darrick Ray Van Dyke was born on August 26, 1997.

Ben loved the outdoors and enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada with his dad. He also enjoyed hunting and trapping. Throughout his career, Ben worked for Mahaska Distributing in Oskaloosa and Schiebout Tire in Pella. Ben also drove truck for PFS, delivering frozen food all over the Midwest. He was always there to lend a helping hand, and often helped his friend Dustin get his crops out of the field.  Ben had a wonderful sense of humor and was quick to make people laugh. He was a good friend to many.

According to his son, Darrick: Ben was a man of many talents, jokes, and memories. He was an amazing father. Ben’s golf game was nearly perfect, until Darrick came along and showed him who was better! And the fishing trips to the Ozarks were always a blast. Ben and Darrick’s last trip together was at Darrick’s graduation, when Ben helped Darrick move home in 2016.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son Darrick Ray Van Dyke, his parents Al and Milly Van Dyke of Pella, his sister Mindy (Dan) Schnoebelen of Pella, and many extended family members and friends.
