Charlotta Baumann

Charlotta Ruby Schakel Baumann was born on April 17, 1933, to Leendert and Gertrude Lela (Sels) Schakel, in Spring Creek Township in Mahaska County, Iowa.

Char graduated from Pella High School in 1951, where she played basketball.  In 1956, she was united in marriage to Irvin Baumann.

Char worked for Pella Corporation for 36 years. She attended Lutheran church in Knoxville and the First Baptist Church in Pella where she participated in many women’s groups. Throughout her life, she lived in Oskaloosa, Monroe and Pella. Char enjoyed cruises and traveling many places and was an avid bowler. She was involved in the Pella Historical Society, and loved hosting family during Tulip Time.

Char is survived by her nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Irvin in 1988, her parents Leendert and Gertrude Schakel, her twin sister Charlene, her sister Dorothy Van Niewaal, and her brothers Wilfred Schakel and Kenneth Schakel.
