Derrill Cook

Derrill Laverne Cook was born June 13, 1937, to Lloyd and Lola Cook, on the family farm near Oskaloosa, Iowa.  He passed away on September 14, 2022, in Pella, Iowa.

Derrill grew up in the Oskaloosa area, attended Oskaloosa High School and joined the Marine reserves. He worked for Pella Corporation over 40 years.

Derrill met Shirley Van Dyk during Tulip Time while he was driving his convertible with friends. They were united in marriage on December 29, 1966, at her parents’ home in Pella. He enjoyed convertibles, bowling, watching Jeopardy, video games, and pet cats Simba, Magic and all the ones before them.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Shirley, Ken and Kristy Oppenhuizen, and their family Kent and Renae, Lauren Oppenhuizen, and Kyle and Paige Oppenhuizen, and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.  

Derrill was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Lola Cook and his siblings: Marguerite Shinofield, Nelson Cook, Wilma Stuva, and June Cook; his parents-in-law G.R. and Minnie Van Dyk, his sister-in-law: Johanna (Henry) Roozeboom, and his brother-in-law: Raymond Van Dyk.
