Richard Eugene Hawkins was born April 10, 1958, to Lorraine and Irene “Bunny” Hawkins, in Newton, Iowa. He passed away at the Comfort House in Pella on May 8, 2019.
Dick attended Reasnor Elementary School and was a 1976 graduate of the New Monroe School District. He was a paint tech at Pella Corporation for almost 36 years, where he earned the Chairman’s Club award.
On June 18, 1983, he was united in marriage to Shellie Klein at the First Reformed Church in Pella. To this union they were blessed with two children: Andrew and Nicole.
Dick was a Boy Scout Leader, coached 7th grade football, and an avid spectator of Iowa State sports and the Chicago Cubs. He loved cooking (not cleaning), fishing and mushroom hunting. He was an animal lover, and was especially fond of wiener dogs. Dick was also a talented, artistic wood-worker and designer.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Shellie, his son Andy (Christina) Hawkins of Des Moines, his daughter Nikki Hawkins of Pella, and his brothers: Norman (Shelley) Hawkins of Ames, Iowa, Robert (Beth) Hawkins of Newton, Iowa, and Timothy Hawkins of Gainesville, Florida. Dick is also survived by his parents-in-law Perry and Carolyn Klein of Pella; his brother-in-law Perry (Ann) Klein, sister-in-law Sheryl (Rod) Van Genderen and many nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Lorraine Hawkins and Irene Hawkins Mitchel, his paternal grandparents Andrew and Ethel Hawkins and his maternal grandparents Arthur and Rosa Burris.
