Kent Leroy Van Vark was born September 2, 1949, to Robert and Dorothy (Farquhar) Van Vark, in Pella, Iowa. He attended Lincoln Elementary School and was a 1967 graduate of Pella Community High School. He went on to complete his undergraduate and dental school at the University of Iowa, in Iowa City.
On July 14, 1973, he was united in marriage to Susan McMains at the First Baptist Church in Pella. To this union they were blessed with two sons: Wade and Cole. Kent was a dentist in Oskaloosa for 25 years. He was also a builder for Van Vark Construction and an employee of Pella Golf and Country Club.
Kent was all about family, sports and staying active. He played basketball, baseball, and golf in high school, and was even a member of the Iowa Flag Football state championship team while at the University of Iowa. Kent’s love of sports lasted his entire life and included recreational softball and basketball; watching his children and grandchildren’s numerous activities; and golfing as recently as this past April.
