John Rietveld

John Elmer Rietveld was born January 23, 1959, to Elmer J. and Eleanor (Huisman) Rietveld in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He passed away on February 7, 2022, in Pella, Iowa. 

John grew up in the Pella area and was in the class of ‘77 at Pella Community High School.  He was married to Bonnie Hunt and they had one son, Ben. On August 10, 1991, he was united in marriage to Teresa Beyer. To this union they had two children: Lucas and Molly.

John always kept busy. He helped on the family farm, he was a bus driver, then he was Assistant Supervisor of Maintenance and Grounds for Pella Schools for over 30 years. He went on to be Assistant Superintendent of Bos Landon Golf Course, and most recently he worked for Menninga Pest Control. He was very particular and took great pride, and a lot of time maintaining his yard.  

John loved spending time outdoors in all the seasons, whether it was golfing, boating on the family pontoon, hunting (everything), or ice fishing. He was very involved in the National Wild Turkey Federation, serving as Marion County Chapter President for many years. Most of all, John loved his wife, kids, friends, and his granddaughter!

John is survived by his wife Teresa, and his children: Ben (Melissa) Rietveld and granddaughter Audrey, Lucas Rietveld, and Molly Rietveld (fiancé Nathan Vander Wert),  his mother Eleanor Rietveld, his sisters: Debra Ferguson, and Susan (Tim) Van Gorp. He is also survived by his father-in-law and step mother: Alan Beyer and his wife Lorraine; sisters-in-law: Kimberly (Jim) Vande Voort and Tamera (John) Van Heukelom, and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his father Elmer J. Rietveld, brother-in-law Scott Ferguson, and his mother-in-law Janice Roose.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Wonder Spelen, for a memorial bench.
