Michael Comstock Obituary

Michael Comstock was born October 5, 1987, and was placed for adoption with Daniel and Marla  (Nunnikhoven) Comstock on November 19, 1987.  He passed away on August 28, 2020, at age 32, at the Comfort House in Pella.

Michael attended school in Pella, and was a 2006 Graduate of Pella Community High School.

On May 30, 2009, he was united in marriage to Amber Knapp in Pella. They were blessed with a daughter Hailey, and later divorced.

Michael was an avid bowler his entire life, and bowled two perfect games! He bowled as a youth, in high school, adult leagues, and for William Penn University.

He attended Renaissance Faires and Festivals for several years and traveled to several states. He participated in several plays and liked to act. He also liked to do impersonations of many people and accents.

Michael was a Kansas City Royals fan and attended many games and Fan Fest. He was personal friends with several players and even an owner. He was also a fan of the Omaha Storm Chasers and friends with a manager. He met some of his best friends while waiting for the gates to open for games. Those encounters made some of his favorite memories!

Michael loved to go camping and trout fishing in north-east Iowa. He had participated in Cub Scouts and Cadets in his youth.

In May 2018, Michael was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. After going through chemotherapy he was declared cancer free in October 2018. Then in May 2019, a tumor on his pelvis was found and he was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer, which was already in his liver and lungs. He fought as hard as he could, withstanding chemo again and radiation, but the tumors continued to grow.

His daughter was most important in Michael’s life and world. Even though distance separated them, he always loved his “Hailey-cakes.”

Michael is survived by his daughter Hailey Comstock, his parents Dan and Marla Comstock, his maternal grandparents Henry Lee and Norma Nunnikhoven, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his infant sister Michelle, and his paternal grandparents Huston Jr. and Marie Comstock.

The memorial service will be livestream on the Garden Chapel Facebook page.
