Nicholas C. McCarrick
March 23, 1965 ~ December 24, 2023 (age 58) 58 Years Old
Nicholas Charles McCarrick was born March 23, 1965, to Marvin and Doris (Delzell) McCarrick, in Burlington, Iowa. Nick grew up in Morning Sun, Iowa, where he graduated from high school in 1983. He graduated from Central College in Pella with a degree in Psychology in 1987. He met Brenda Leonard while working at Central Iowa Residential Services, Inc. in Marshalltown in 1989. A job at Christian Opportunity Center (COC) brought Nick back to Pella in 1990.
On October 20, 1990, Nick and Brenda were married at Mingo United Methodist. They made their home in Pella, Iowa.
Nick worked at the Pella Wal-Mart while attending Buena Vista University in Ottumwa where he received a second Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He worked at Ring-O-Matic in Pella from 1995 until 2019, when he had a cauda equina spinal cord injury.
When Nick was young, he raced go-carts around the Oskaloosa area. This love of racing continued with Nick becoming an avid dirt car race fan. He and Brenda traveled the Midwest during the summers to catch a race wherever there was one. Nick, with the brain of an accountant has several spiral notebooks with his own version of stats from each race he watched, whether it was online or in person.
Nick was a good conversationalist. He was always interested in the lives of his friends. He had a terrific memory for details to get a conversation started. No one felt unseen by Nick. He had the gift of making everyone feel known.
Nick is survived by his wife, Brenda, his parents-in-law Bob and Barbara Leonard of Mingo, his aunt Karen, and uncle Roger Delzell, and cousins, Tracie Hartman, Toni Chenoweth, and Raja Jane Gideon and their families.
Nick passed away early Sunday morning, December 24, 2023, from cardiomyopathy. He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris on February 10, 2005, and his father, Marvin on December 7, 2008.
