Paul Vos was born the tenth of twelve children to Dirk and Jennie (Bruxvoort) Vos on a farm three miles west of Sully, Iowa, on January 16, 1927. He was baptized at the Sully Christian Reformed Church. He reached the age of 95.
Paul said it was always fun to be part of a large family. His boyhood years were spent on the farm near Sully and on a farm near Pella. He received his education in both Jasper and Marion County Schools. Paul’s first real paying job as a boy was bringing fresh water to the threshing crew for a neighbor and was paid one dollar per day. He pooled his money with brothers John and Harold to buy a used bicycle for $9.21. Paul’s first car was a 1938 Chevrolet. Paul made profession of his faith at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella, where he met Marjorie Van Den Berg from Otley. After dating a while, Paul and Marjorie were married on August 12, 1948, in Otley. They farmed in the Galesburg and Monroe area until 1986, when they moved to Pella. Paul and Marjorie enjoyed their travels to several states in the lower 48, as well as Alaska, Hawaii, Europe and fishing trips to Canada.
Paul and Marjorie had four children: Byron in 1949, Arvin in 1951, Mark in 1954, and Ruth in 1958. Sorrow came into Paul’s life when after 59 years of marriage, Marjorie passed away October 14, 2007.
Paul was united in marriage to Marilyn Ruth (Van Gorp) Van Wyk on January 3, 2009, at the Calvary Christian Reformed Church. Together Paul and Marilyn enjoyed volunteering at Bibles for Missions and enjoying car rides in his 1966 Buick convertible with the Dutch Masters Club.
