Thomas “Tom” Eugene Rigg was born January 22, 1950, to Robert and Lorrean (Kilgore) Rigg in Moberly, Missouri.
Tom was a 1968 graduate of William Chrisman High School in Independence, Missouri. He joined the ROTC in high school and immediately after graduation he joined the Army.
On March 10, 1973, he was united in marriage to Lena “Fran” Stevenson in Buckner, Missouri. To this union they were blessed with a daughter Samatha. Tom worked for dairies in Kansas City, and in 1976 they moved to Pella where he started working for Pella Corp. After retiring from Pella Corporation, Tom opened Excit-A-Bowl - this was his dream! Later he joined Walmart as a greeter and he loved working there.
Tom loved football “Go Chiefs,” baseball (KC Royals), fishing, bingo, bowling, card games, crafts (making bracelets, pairing ceramics, coloring), coin and memorabilia collecting. He loved spoiling his grandkids especially with his “poppy-cakes” (pancakes). He loved handing out stickers and bracelets to “his kids” at Walmart! Summers were filled with Royals games and fall at Arrowhead Stadium. He liked his old Westerns and attending Pella High football games. Nothing beat fried chicken and barbecue ribs - never casseroles, LOL!
Tom led his daughter’s Campfire group and coached her softball team. He also coached boy’s baseball teams, and played Santa Claus for several years. Tom enjoyed helping raise money for Camp Sunny Side by holding annual auctions for several years. Tom was host family for two foreign exchange students - Silvia and Carol.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Fran, his daughter Samatha (Stan) Meinders of Pella; his grandchildren: Seth Meinders of Pella and Rachael Meinders of Minneapolis. He is also survived by his sister Rhonda (Irvin) Vink of Pella, and his sister-in-law Carol Rigg of Tennessee.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers: William Rigg and Robert Rigg.
